Taskforce Fashion

De Stijl van Noord

Taskforce Fashion is a collaborative project between fashion platforms FASHIONCLASH, M-ODE en State Of Fashion. Taskforce Fashion puts both the design process and collaboration at the center of this project - and for this second experiment, ‘Residency for Responsible fashion’, it has selected fifteen fashion talents who, in teams of five, will zoom in on three cities in the Netherlands: Maastricht, Tilburg and Rotterdam. The task is to explore the relevance and the transformative role of fashion in relation to social issues and to a sustainable vision for the future.

Within this project, a team of five designers in Tilburg explored how fashion can be a tool for social intervention. Extending the concept of fashion beyond clothing - with an emphasis on personal style and identity - created a community project that was realized and carried by the people of the neighborhood. The photo exhibition ‘De Stijl van Noord’(Dutch for ‘The Style of North’)gives the youth of Tilburg Noord a face. Without fuss, without filter, but with a lot of style and personality. Not professional models, but (future) role models. The photos and the exhibition put a positive spotlight on these authentic young people of underexposed Tilburg North. The young people were portrayed by photographer Raoul Laisina.

From 28 June to 1 July 2021, the portraits were on display during an exhibition at NS16 on NS Square in Tilburg. The exhibition was combined with the results of the project Beeldig, (Dutch for ‘Picture Perfect’), part of the Second Skin project.
