Off the top of my hat
'Off the top of my hat' is a project of fashion designer Rens de Waal and filmmaker Luca Tichelman in collaboration with young people from the Tilburg North neighborhood.
The project consisted of several workshops and shooting a fashion film. During the workshops, the youth worked on "alter ego hats"; experimental hats that depicted a variety of characters. The hats made during the workshops are featured in the fashion film ‘Off the top of my hat’. In the film, the youngsters can be seen wearing alter ego hats and experimenting with different characters. The depiction of these hats is the subject and connecting factor of the film.

The film premiered at the Official Opening of FASHIONCLASH Festival 2021 at Lumière Cinema in Maastricht. IIn 2022 the film was selected for Aesthetica Short Film Festival (GB) and for ASVOFF (F) and in 2023 the film will be part of the official selection of FFFAmsterdam.
